Solar Oracle Walkman
This ongoing R&D project uses uncontrollable defects in the photovoltaic layer of handmade dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) to test their potential as physically unclonable functions (PUFs) and as a basis for energy identity. The device reads each piece of solar glass through its I–V curve and translates that curve into generative music, staging electrical behavior and identity as both generative and continuous: not fixed labels, but relations that keep forming through material, light, time, and measurement. Solar glass becomes the embodied structure through which these two domains meet. Through a mobile Walkman and public performance, the project asks what a self may or may not delegate when a material identity is authorized to act as an energy agent, and where the policy boundaries of such delegation lie. It ultimately speculates on how distributed cognition might shape future public energy-agent platforms, where sensory philosophy, credential design, and technical engineering must be developed together.
